Welcome to The Closet Ministry @ First Baptist Church, Vandalia, IL
The Closet Ministry @ First Baptist Church Vandalia was the second Closet location. Our first Free Shopping Day was held in November of 2009. As of January 2011, 448 families have received free clothing from The Closet @ FBC Vandalia.
Our events are held in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church at the corner of Sixth and Johnson. Your donations can be dropped in the office hall at the church during regular office hours and on Thursday evenings from 7pm-9pm in the quarterly room. Donations are sorted and tagged in the quarterly Sunday School class room on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings. If you would like to volunteer for sorting and tagging or for a Free Shopping Day, visit our EVENTS page.
It is our goal to share the love of Christ by meeting the needs of those in our community.
First Baptist Church was establish in 1894 in Fayette County, Illinois. Vandalia is a small, rural community located on the Kaskaskia River. Our town was once the state capital before being moved to Springfield, Illinois. Abraham Lincoln served in Vandalia during his reign in legislation. The State House is a historical monument and is still open to the public for viewing. Vandalia also has the honor of housing one of twelve Madonna of the Trail statues marking the National Old Trails Road. This monument, which was dedicated on October 26, 1928, sits on the southeast corner of the Old State Capitol grounds in Vandalia, Illinois and honors the faith and courage of the women during the settlement of our country.
